Special Interest Groups (SIGs) 

SIGs are voluntary groups that operate to the benefit of a specialist field or geographic area. Collectively, the SIGs would offer a broad spectrum of target resources whilst being able to organise meetings and respond to consultations with expert knowledge.     

MBA Members can access informal SIGs through our community platform:  

• Polar SIG 

The MBA is seeking to expand its range of SIGs and would welcome proposals for new groups to be established as well as offers of involvement in current groups.  

Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) 

The EDI committee is a Member led group established to “increase diversity in marine sciences and seek better visibility, engagement and accessibility for underrepresented groups, marine researchers and students, including but not limited to class, disability, ethnicity, gender, neurodiversity, sexuality and awareness of potential intersectionality”.  

The EDI committee also informs the work being carried out at the Marine Biological Association headquarters in Plymouth, with a commitment to promote best practice in equality, diversity and inclusion, to ensure people feel involved, respected and will lead to increased diversity in marine sciences.
