Major funding has been allocated to support the next generation of biology and environmental researchers.
The investment of more than £500 million from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) will support doctoral students to develop their skills and experience across biological sciences, engineering and physical sciences and natural and environmental sciences.
The Marine Biological Association (MBA) is one of the beneficiaries of this major funding, as a member of two NERC partnerships (IGNITE and ARIES) and the BBSRC SWBio4 partnership.
This financial support will enable the MBA to continue its groundbreaking research, innovation and discovery in the field of marine biology and provide opportunities for young scientists to explore and contribute to the conservation and understanding of ocean life.
MBA Director of Science and Senior Research Fellow Professor Michael Cunliffe said: “the MBA is committed to nurturing talent and driving progress in marine biology and related disciplines. This funding will not only benefit the Association; but also contribute to the broader scientific community, advancing knowledge and awareness of our marine ecosystems.”
The funding will be allocated through three of UKRI’s research councils; The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
