For almost 140 years, The Marine Biological Association (MBA) has been the voice of marine biology. Now we can reveal our new branding and website, which demonstrates our continued passion for the understanding of the ocean and life that resides there.
This bold new look has been created to reflect the integrity of our research, to inspire new generations of marine biologists and work towards our vision for a sustainable ocean for all.
The new website, developed by Chalk & Ward has many new and improved features, including a searchable directory of staff, an interactive historical timeline of the MBA and My MBA, a brand new members portal that has additional features such as special interest communities and a growing library of online resources including articles, blogs and videos.
The website reflects both MBA history through illustrations from nineteenth century research scientists to present day with the use of photos from the highly skilled, local photographers Chris Parkes and Georgie Bull who have helped create an impactful and authentic vision of who we are and the ocean that we love.
The new logo which incorporates the distinctive MBA seahorse emblem has been given a modern, eye-catching update with a fresh new ocean-themed colour palette. The Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR), The Archive for Marine Species and Habitats Data (DASSH) and The Marine Life Information Network (MarLIN) have all been given a branding update with the new MBA logo.
Director of the MBA Professor Willie Wilson said: “I love this refreshing, yet classic, new look for the MBA which builds on our historical roots and Royal Charter. It embellishes our core values to be inspiring to a diverse community, be visionary in our research, and reflect the integrity of a Learned Society. I believe it is a brand that MBA supporters will be proud to be associated with. It will help enhance the voice of marine biology.”
